Assemble Granby Workshop - 2015 Turner Price Award
Assemble a team of 18 young architects and designers, a London-based collective that works across art, design and architecture to create projects for the communities who use them. They have been announced as the winners of the 2015 Turner Prize.

The project is Granby Four Streets. It involves the renovation of 10 houses and a series of empty shops in Toxteth, Liverpool, North West England. Assemble's approach to this project is centred on a sustainable vision for the area that builds on the hard work already done by residents translating it to the refurbishment of housing, public space and the provision of new work.

Their method of collaboration is working together on one project and using their skills to take part. Without all 18 architects and designers involved, their project can't work. They all depend on each other to push artistic vision and work within a system.

This collaboration interests me because this wasn't an intentional art piece, especially to be nominated for the Turner prize award. They decided to take these unused and unwanted spaces to regenerate meaning. The general public wouldn't care about these ten abandoned council houses, and the local people who live in similar houses like this would show importance with their homes. This is to offer local support to reclaim their streets from the cynical regeneration plan that didn't go on. This can overall change the public minds about similar places that are discriminated against as unsafe.
The benefit of collaboration in this work is that multiple houses can be regenerated at once, and doing ten houses in a shorter period can be possible. Each house can have its quirk as some designers may have different styles. Creating creative designs and ideas would be more accessible, and they can develop from each other's thoughts since they all have the same goal, making the houses a collaborative piece.
